Sydney Suns in Beautiful St Croix

Sydney Suns in Beautiful St Croix

January 29, 2014

St. Croix is ideal for us pups because it is located in the U.S. Virgin Islands, making a lengthy stay in quarantine unnecessary.  That way, you and your humans can enjoy the whole holiday together.  It works both ways—no quarantine going back to the mainland which means no hassles to ruin the mood on the way back home either.

There are a few rules and regs when visiting here or any offshore destination to keep your holiday aces.

Your humans must obtain a Heath Certificate from your vet within 10 days of your flight indicating that your vaccinations are current and you have no known communicable diseases.  Us pets must have a rabies vaccine within 6 months prior to travel and the papers to prove it.  Tell your humans to have these documents readily available, as they will be asked for them. Dogs & cats do not require a special import permit to travel to St. Croix.  Other animals must be permitted. (But who wants to travel with the family snake anyway, right mates?)

Don’t leave home without flea, tick and heartworm preventatives. Take it from Sydney—they are extremely important in this climate.

Travel on the safe side. Tell your humans to ask a lot of questions before your trip.

Your humans should contact their air carrier for complete details regarding the number of pets traveling; restrictions based on time of year/temperature, types of carriers and general policies regarding transportation of animals.  Tell ‘em to err on the side of caution. Extreme temperatures can cause heat stroke or death while on the ramps at airports.

If you’re a big fella your humans should insist on a direct flight as large dogs are transported by air cargo and the commuter planes from Puerto Rico to St. Croix are small and don’t have room for a large dog carrier.

Here are some of my personal picks…so kick back and relax, Sydney style!

Private homes and luxury villas
If you and your human are in the mood for a private venue there are many terrific alternatives.  Homes range from a very affordable $600 per week to luxury villas with a full concierge staff.

Here are a few great sources to help you find the perfect island vacation for you and your humans.  The paw print icon is a quick indicator of pet friendly island homes.  Nice touch, if I do say so myself!—they can help tailor a villa to you and your human’s needs.
