Increase Your Property Value.  Get a DOG!

February 18, 2013

In recent years, studies have shown that pets in America have become an increasingly important part of the family.  To that end, many pet parents lavish dogs and cats with toys, treats…and pet friendly upgrades to the family home.

In a review of properties by Move, Inc., a handbook for the real estate community, homeowners are investing in custom-built dog runs, elaborate and sometimes intensely creative dog houses, doggy door systems, landscaping with pets in mind, private cat patios…even personalized fire hydrants.  Turns out, these features actually enhance the value of the home.

Pet friendly amenities can often make or break the buyer’s interest in a property.  They can turn “liking” a potential new home into “loving” a home that’s perfect for a family AND the pets.

City dwellers may be more concerned with the proximity of dog parks and daycare centers, but the suburbs have embraced, shall we say, the more creative side of home sales.

Take the Victorian home (with matching doghouse), the Florida mansion with outdoor swimming pavilion (and bone shaped dog pool), and, for cooler climes, a warm place for Fido to chill—say a heated doghouse with a deluxe dog run.

Whatever the level of enthusiasm, if you’re considering selling your home soon or in the  future, keep the four legged in mind.  They just may just seal the deal.
