Quill.  The True Story of a Guide Dog’s Journey.

January 18, 2013

This exquisitely filmed Japanese film takes us from the litter where little Quill was born through his training to be a guide dog for the blind.  Named for a quill shaped mark on his otherwise perfect yellow Labrador retriever coat, Quill is selected as a potential guide dog just after his first birthday.

This film shows, from tiny puppyhood, how guide dogs are selected, trained, and finally paired with their new masters.

In Quill’s case, it’s a bumpy road.  Mr. Watanabe wants no part of “being drug around by a dog.”  But Quill’s patience, gentleness and perseverance may just break the barriers, and the hearts of Mr. W., and everyone in the theatre.
