Isaac Mizrahi.  Designer.  Fragrance Creator.  Dog Lover.

February 14, 2014

Launching a fragrance is no easy task.  It’s gotta smell great, but...How to make it special?   How to make the crowds adore you?  How to make it unforgettable? Easy.  Use a dog. A poodle, to be precise.

A recognized dog lover (adore-er would be more like it) Isaac Mizrahi employed the Power of the Poodle for his fall 2012 launch of his new fragrance, “Fabulous.”

And fabulous it was.  The models all sported “poodle puff” coifs and were attended on the catwalk (sorry Fido, it’s a proper name) black standard poodles in full groom.

“I just thought there was a kind of madness to it,” Mizrahi said of incorporating the dogs into the campaign.  “This really dressy, mysterious, discreet woman who is totally revealed by her love of poodles.  It says she has a sense of humor, a sense of fun, a sense of the outrageous and over-the-top.”

“I’ve always had a poodle moment,” said Mizrahi, “I grew up with a poodle named Pom Pom.  A big apricot colored giant.”

The star of the launch event at Bloomingdale’s flagship in NYC was quite literally, Star.  A black standard poodle who was a former dog show, well...star.

While she was the picture of composure during the fashion show, the crowds went wild.

Mizrahi often features his two pups on FB.  7-year old Dean (a Jack Russell) and Harry, a 12-year old mixed breed who (according to his pop) has still got it goin’ on.

“I’m serious,” commented Mizrahi, “Twelve is the new seven.”  pz
